Case Study WILO - Production in the fast lane

Discover in our case study how the renowned pump manufacturer WILO optimizes its production with flexAssistant.

Digital worker assistance system independently monitors and controls assembly and test processes

The renowned pump manufacturer WILO SE is modernizing its headquarters in Dortmund, with the heart of the new WILO Park being a smart factory equipped with state-of-the-art workstations and autonomous transport systems (AGVs). The highlight: a digital worker assistance system from SOMA GmbH, which acts as the factory's intelligence, monitors all production processes and guides the staff.

To this end, several assembly lines were implemented in a freely interlinked manner, which are connected to flexAssistant as a higher-level assistance and process monitoring system. This is where all information such as relevant process parameters, component queries and planned routes for the AGVs come together. The system automatically sends the corresponding work instructions to the respective assembly station and instructs the worker on the required work steps and tool selection by using a pick-by-light system at the assembly workstation.

flexAssistant worker assistance software minimizes human error

Forgetting components, selecting the wrong torques or incorrect assembly are a thing of the past, as the higher-level process monitoring system detects errors as soon as they occur. In the event of a deviation, the new system no longer leads to a production stop, but directs the AGV with the product to the appropriate rework station. The AGVs can even overtake each other or deviate from their routes in order to speed up production.

In order to get employees used to digitalized assembly work, SOMA has also implemented a training line based on the same model, which can be used not only to train new employees but also to test and pre-plan the assembly of new developments.
